Imagine Nigeria, the biggest and most populous country in black Africa is drifting, it ought not to lack anything as a great nation. It has black gold in large quantity but cannot manage it properly to stay alive with the people. Way back in the 70’s and early 80’s the country was like a tree planted on the streams of water, that set of leaders had ruled and live well with the people. The turnover of the rich oil resources was evenly managed as civil servants too were paid wage allowances e.g. the popular Udoji awards in 1974/5 for them to smile home from the banks as at then. Moreover, there was massive production economy exist everywhere in the country. Those were the golden years of Nigeria per se, the later years became balderdash till now. Just imagine, it was regarded as a country which goes with the flow of petrodollars. Nowadays, what went wrong was the parade of stiff-necked and corrupt leaders including ordinary Nigerians reign without control. They sucked the nation treasury dry in the name of bogus contracts awards while some that abandoned including money laundering across the country by leaders. The energy that built the country has collapsed entirely. Therefore, crime upsurges like kidnapping and terrorist attacks are rampart, beyond this is politics being played now along ethnic lines, money and favoritism by leaders. If you don’t belong, there’s nothing for your syndrome is the order of the today, crazy! Little wonder, says a little bird, the stream of water that fed Nigeria is fading and fallen down. The fall is great that the top leadership is finding it difficult to stand up. The citizenry is poor and are starving. The people perhaps wait for God intervention as they’ve loose hope with the government. Slowly and surely, selection of new set of leadership is around the corner, when we reach the bridge, we cross. But the bottom-line is don’t accept bribe when voting. Vote out bad, bad leaders. Period.

I keep on wondering what’s happening to the Izon nation in Delta state. Since the advent of democracy in 1979, no Izon man has become governor of that state. I dare to ask if there’re no Izon political stakeholders there. After Ex-governor O. J. Ibori, the Izons there didn’t make up any attempt to be governor but Uhrobos’, the Delta Ibos and Isokos’ were in the forefront to rule the state, for the Izons’, no body to show up for it. Are the Izon nation strong in resource control agitations only but not in governance and leadership role there. Are they scared of other tribes’ superiority over them? These are questions begging for urgent answers now that another race is at hand. The Izon nation must take their destiny by themselves, what would they tell their born and unborn children if they turn around to ask them for this course. It’s no surprise for Wike to question why Izon leaders cannot make an Izon man governor in Delta state but championed ‘asawanna’? There must be a way to look inwards to fight this battle of necessity by the Izons there not by violence but through political process. The time is now. The Bayelsa Izons are doing well, they must copy them, I must say.

Now that political contest is looming around at everywhere in Nigeria following the 2027 general elections, agitations of equity representation is heightened daily by constituents in Bayelsa state recently. The political quirks are emerged at Sagbama, Ekeremor, Southern Ijaw local governments down to Ogbia/Nembe/Brass federal constituencies. Political stakeholders such as youth organizations say there is gentlemen agreement among the wards for rotational term at any time of election but greedy elected political office holders try to derail the agreement. To make their grievances known to public, they organize protests to drive home their position, no matter whether rain or shine. One of such protest was taken to the venue of APC’s stakeholders screening committee of state and National Assembly candidates for the 2027 general elections. Another was staged at Toru-Orua by a set of youths, complaining to their traditional that it’s the community turn to vie for the state House of Assembly. The last but not the least was Ogbia political stakeholders who vehemently stated that it’s the turn of Brass to take Ogbia/Nembe/Brass senatorial seat at the senate. An impeccable source said that the screening committee promised to do everything possible to ensure credible exercise. However, political opinion leaders’ way goes back believed that it is the practice of greedy political office holders’ style to sit tight without consideration of others to occupy their elective office. They assumed that their offices are God-given and is meant for them only, not for everybody – African democracy they say. Late Afro beat king, Fela Anikulakpo Kuti call it demonstration craze, hahaha! This is an issue that must be taken seriously but political leaders lack to call their houses in order to avoid stiff-necked leadership in the country. It’s this greedy self-style pattern of political office holders undermining the equity for others have caused political instability and imbalance for those who are denied their opportunity to kick against successful elections at most times. Me think that political leaders have hearing ears to check this anomaly.

It’s like Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa state is a political game changer. His tenure in office dramatically changed the political hemisphere of the state. Remarkably, he led the mass exodus of PDP members to the national ruling APC and thus gradually change the party structure of the APC. Now, the chairman of APC Baylsa is a former devout party man of PDP, Walman Ogoriba who changed Dennis Otiotio. Otiotio was strategically appointed by Timipre Syva is no more, thereby dashing Syva’s hope of controlling APC for 2027 general elections. As a result, Sylva has loose grip of APC, his chance of controlling the party is slim. Moreover, some heavy weights of APC were said to have resigned their membership in the state. They somehow blame it on allege lack of information made available to them on critical issues as key party stakeholders by the current party machinery. It’s gathered that the party leader is really wanted to lead the party with classroom teacher experience, on break down method, to ensure that every member of the party benefits unlike it was before he became leader; where only few top members control it. Senator Lokpobiri actually pointed out this when the party met at the Bouquet Hall, Govt. House, Yenagoa. He said the APC is now rancor free since Governor Diri became the leader of the party, adding that everybody happy is happy to join it, as tomorrow might be too late to complain from outside. Diri, he said, would want every party member to chew a chunk of the cake. This includes infrastructural development of communities, institutions and empowerment in the state. Indeed, Governor Diri is a political game changer on even the picking of the right choice of deputy governor of Bayelsa state and continues the mobilization of Bayelsans for Tinubu as President for APC 2027 general elections. –By Harry Sharp
