Political quirks in Bayelsa

Now that political contest is looming around at everywhere in Nigeria following the 2027 general elections, agitations of equity representation is heightened daily by constituents in Bayelsa state recently. The political quirks are emerged at Sagbama, Ekeremor, Southern Ijaw local governments down to Ogbia/Nembe/Brass federal constituencies. Political stakeholders such as youth organizations say there is gentlemen agreement among the wards for rotational term at any time of election but greedy elected political office holders try to derail the agreement. To make their grievances known to public, they organize protests to drive home their position, no matter whether rain or shine. One of such protest was taken to the venue of APC’s stakeholders screening committee of state and National Assembly candidates for the 2027 general elections. Another was staged at Toru-Orua by a set of youths, complaining to their traditional that it’s the community turn to vie for the state House of Assembly. The last but not the least was Ogbia political stakeholders who vehemently stated that it’s the turn of Brass to take Ogbia/Nembe/Brass senatorial seat at the senate. An impeccable source said that the screening committee promised to do everything possible to ensure credible exercise. However, political opinion leaders’ way goes back believed that it is the practice of greedy political office holders’ style to sit tight without consideration of others to occupy their elective office. They assumed that their offices are God-given and is meant for them only, not for everybody – African democracy they say. Late Afro beat king, Fela Anikulakpo Kuti call it demonstration craze, hahaha! This is an issue that must be taken seriously but political leaders lack to call their houses in order to avoid stiff-necked leadership in the country. It’s this greedy self-style pattern of political office holders undermining the equity for others have caused political instability and imbalance for those who are denied their opportunity to kick against successful elections at most times. Me think that political leaders have hearing ears to check this anomaly.
